I'm a Linux sysadmin by trade, so I trust WordPress about as far as I can throw the developer team. I wanted a blog platform that didn't require PHP or a database, wouldn't leak my private data or expose gaping security holes on my web server if somebody so much as sneezed at it, and which let me edit posts in whatever the hell I wanted, without hacking raw HTML files. Enter Pelican. It's a neat little tool that lets me write in Markdown in my preferred text editor. You might know Markdown better as "Reddit comment syntax" or "that stuff that looks like plaintext email."
The site's name comes from a portmanteau of "Sea of Dirac," a concept from physics best known from Evangelion, and "iDRAC," which is the out of band management doohickey board on Dell servers.
